Once again the sculptural production of Giuseppe Pongolini shows us with rudeness the strength of the conceptual expressionism. The suffering of the idea, the scenic spectacularity appear in works like “ CONTEMPORARY CRUCIFIXION ”  a sculpture that shows a crucified book to symbolize the death of the word, theory and philosophy that symbolize culture and art, universal knowledge of the humanity. In a technological society, the word makes way for the image, to be for to appear. The irony shows herself in all its rudeness in the work of the italian, who uses poetic elements to give greater emphasis to his criticism, entering us in a world of deep meditations and of theatre-performances full of dramatic drive, of scenic strenght and of a definite will to directly hit the soul.

The art in this highest form has always had the duty-merit to put us in contact with the divine, to arouse into human heart the echoes of the infinite. The Giuseppe Pongolini’s sculpture doesn’t fail to this duty. On a ruined ladder is placed the literary work that more than any other approaches us to the Transcendent. The Divine Comedy, transfixed black and blue by two long nails, well reminds the calvary of the humanity that in the attempt to elevate herself neglects the essential, doesn’t consider much important the existence, fades the values. A humanity that has stopped to look for God, not scouring any more the paths of the nature and the art.
